We got the waffle sticks and cinnamon bun (also a waffle). They were okay but kinda undercooked and certainly not worth the 45 minute wait we would've had to endure for table service. Will not be visiting again.
45 minutes for a table? There were 5 tables open........
I️ love places that bring me to side streets in small towns. Iron Roost is a credit to Ballston Spa
After being talked up by all our friends, we finally made it to the Iron Roost, expecting everything to be delicious. We had mixed results. The bananas foster was great, would definitely get again. My egg sandwich was another story. The waffles tasted as if they had been made two days before and were so bland I ended up only eating the egg and sausage from my sandwich. For a place that centers around waffles so heavily, I couldn't believe how bad these waffles were for my meal. If that had been all we'd ordered today, we probably would not want to come back.
First, I hadn't realized from a glance at the online menu that this place does everything on waffles. Okay, I guess that's their thing. I quickly realized it's not my thing when I tried to make a decision for a quick to go order...
Updated: Tried a second time, determined to give the Iron Roost a fair shot. Unfortunately, I left disappointed again. I ordered the Southern Fiesta (trying to stick with a healthier option) and I've come to the conclusion that they just don't do savory well. The dish was just very bland, hardly seasoned at all. I've found decent elements in the dishes I've tried, but not enough to make me want to come back. Perhaps we just have different tastes, being from the Midwest originally.
I️ had the fried chicken and waffle for lunch. As always was very pleased with the food and the service
I had heard from friends how great the Iron Roost was and tried it for the first time myself today. It's nestled among the quaint shops and leafy streets of Ballston Spa's village. The bananas foster waffles were amazing, and the house blend coffee in a mug came with a free refill. It was the perfect, cozy place to spend a brisk fall day. Definitely planning to go back again soon to try one of their omelets!
My order arrived promptly in the arm of a friendly waiter, the chicken was cooked perfectly with a nice crispy scald and the waffle was fluffy and crunchy
Awesome food. The waffles, coffee and tea are the best in town. Service is always great. It does get packedart prime brunch hours, so I'd recommend getting there before 9 if you don't want to wait. However, it IS worth the wait!!!
